Hertha, Eisbären und Co: Sportsball This Week

Bundesligers Hertha lost 1-2 away against Freiburg despite a late goal by Julian Schieber, who subbed in 10 minutes before the end of the game, on Sunday, Jan. 29. It was the second away loss in a row for Hertha, and it’s the first time since 2015 the team lost its two first games in a new year. They’re now in 6th in the Bundesliga and play Ingolstadt at home Saturday.

Their second-league counterpart, Union Berlin,  won 2-1 at home Saturday against Bochum, putting them in 4th place in the 2. Bundesliga.  They play Dynamo Dresden Sunday in Dresden.

The Eisbären Berlin hockey team won 2-1 at home against the Schwenningen Wild Wings on Tuesday but weren’t able to repeat that performance last night (Friday) away against the Augsburg Panthers. The team had hoped the almost overnight addition of AHL player Louis-Marc Aubry might give them some impetus — instead they lost 1-2.

They’re now ranked 10th in the German league — ahead of the Wild Wings. The Eisbären face off against the Wolfsburg Grizzlies in Wolfsburg Sunday.
